What Is The Liberty Trailblazers Project?
Launched in November 2025, The Liberty Bell Trailblazers project aims to showcase progress and advocate for completion of the Liberty Bell Trail in Montgomery County.
Over the next three years, we’ll engage hundreds of community members, elected officials, municipal leaders, county representatives, and other stakeholders to develop the project and transform trail plans into reality.
In 2026, we’ll host online Project Advisory Group meetings to share plans and gain insights from people living, working, or visiting locations in proximity to the Liberty Bell Trail. Everyone is welcome to attend meetings – please register via our Events page to receive the Zoom meeting link.

How Did This Project Get Started?
In 2005, the Liberty Bell Trail Feasibility Study examined the potential to transform the former 25-mile Liberty Bell Trolley corridor—stretching from Norristown to Quakertown—into a shared-use trail network for walking and cycling. Learn more: Liberty Bell Trail - PEC
In 2013, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) helped found the Circuit Trails Coalition, a regional effort to create a connected network of multi-use trails across Greater Philadelphia. Partnership For Transportation is a member of the Coalition and supports trails as both recreational amenities and active transportation corridors. In 2022, an updated planning and feasibility study focused on the 11-mile Montgomery County segment of the Liberty Bell Trail. Partnership For Transportation contributed technical assistance to strengthen public engagement and community outreach—an essential part of the planning process.
That same year, PEC released the Priority Trails Report, which ranked the Liberty Bell Trail’s “Southern Connection” as the top-priority segment in the Circuit Trails network. Read the report: PEC - Circuit Trails Gap Analysis
In 2025, Partnership For Transportation and PEC identified opportunities to collaborate on closing key gaps along the Liberty Bell Trail. As a result, Partnership For Transportation successfully secured funding from the William Penn Foundation, supporting the Foundation’s goal of adding 75 miles to the Circuit Trails network by 2035.
